Sugbahan sa Dalan Hits Year 3, Hey, It's Tuna Festival!

11:10 PM

The City of General Santos will officially be celebrating it's 19th Tuna Festival in a couple of days and I am just so excited because aside from the interesting events lined up for this year's celebration, this also signals the 3rd run of Sugbahan sa Dalan (SSD for brevity)!

2015 saw the birth of Sugbahan sa Dalan when the GSC Tourism Council, headed by its passionate chairman in the person of First Lady Jane Rivera, thought about coming up with an activity that will appeal to the public and bring the Generals to come together to celebrate the bounty of the sea and enjoy the tuna festival in the most exciting way: grilling, eating,  sharing smiles and  spreading a wave of good vibes in thanksgiving for the year's abundant blessings. Surprisingly, this one-night open picnic celebration earned an overwhelming response from the public and so here we are,  grinding our way to sizzle for the 3rd time!

Happening on September 5, 2017, at 4:00 in the afternoon, SSD is all set to make the Pioneer Avenue  buzzing with whizzy grillers and filling the air with that smoky aroma from char-grilled tuna and other mouth watering seafood fares! Different organizations from the public and private sectors are expected to participate in the open picnic while an estimated 1,000 kilos of fish generously sponsored by the  RD Group of Companies will be roasted for the tourists, guests and locals to feast on.  Kuerdas, a local band famous for their reggae charm will perform to give the event that oomph and complete the beach party vibe ! Gensan Pop Idol and Awit ng Tanghalan Contender Mikee Jorolan Dulay will also be partying with us. Whoooa!

Here, let me take you to a quick throwback to SSD 2.0. Wag kang matatakam ha? 😜

But wait, there's more! It's Tuna Festival after all! This year's theme being "A Peacetival of Fun: Bida sa Saya, Bida sa Tuna", will kick off on the 1st of September with a colorful Tuna Float Parade and a concert for peace featuring the songstress Bayang Barrios, Maan Chua, Kuerdas, Gensan Dancesport Team, RMMC Teatro Ambahanon, MSU Kabpapagariya Ensemble, GSCNHS Kalingaw Dance Co., GSC SPED Teatro Hulagway among others.

Tha Grand Carnival and the Flea Market at the Oval Plaza, where most of the activities will be housed, are already up and running. Certified crowd-drawing activities like the Bombo Tuna Bancarera and the Dragon Boat Competition are also drumming up to bring the celebration to a great high. Check out the calendar of activities below for more details :👇

Among the events that I am personally looking forward to is the Gensan TunaFest Food Strip at Gaisano Mall  which is happening from August 31 to September 8. Kainan na naman! Hahaha!

Before you jam with the Rivermaya at the San Miguel Partyzone on September 2, don't forget to drop by and  take a selfie at the "Cinematic" 😍festival centerpiece and share your tuna experience with us. HT  #TunaFestival2017 #BidasaSayaBidasaTuna ! And because SSD is my baby, (I'm the event manager, friend) do use HT #SugbahanSaDalan2017 too!

Spearheading the 19th Tuna Festival is the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) in partnership with the Local Government of General Santos City

This Chix will be on fayeeeer once again! Charot!
