Healthcare Innovation Unveiled at GSDH

General Santos Doctors Hospital (GSDH) has taken a bold step forward in healthcare with the unveiling of two groundbreaking diagnostic machines — the Siemens Magnetom Flow 1.5 Tesla Helium-Free MRI and the Symbia Evo Excel SPECT Gamma Camera. Both are the first of their kind in Region 12 and General Santos City, bringing world-class technology closer to our community.

The inauguration ceremony that was held on September 12, 2025,  gathered key stakeholders including members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod — Councilors Doc. Joey Dinopol, Michael Pacquiao, Elizabeth Bagonoc, Virgie Llido, and Jonathan Blando — alongside GSDH’s Board of Directors, consultants, healthcare partners, and media representatives.

It was inspiring to hear Dr. Daniel G. Yap, GSDH President and Medical Director, express pride in how these innovations reaffirm the hospital’s mission of Leading Compassionate Care through Imaging Excellence. This milestone is more than just about technology — it’s about providing hope for families in SOCSARGEN who now have access to advanced diagnostics without leaving home.

CHANGING THE GAME IN DIAGNOSTICS

Siemens Magnetom Flow 1.5 Tesla MRI

Not just an upgrade . It's the future of diagnostic imaging. Unlike traditional MRI machines, this next-generation system is helium-free, making it both sustainable and efficient.

With this MRI, doctors can detect health concerns earlier and create personalized treatment plans, leading to better outcomes and greater peace of mind for patients. On the other hand, here's how patients can benefit from it:
  • Clearer images so doctors can spot health issues earlier and with greater precision.
  • Shorter scan times — more than 50% faster — so you spend less time inside the machine.
  • Smarter technology that helps doctors manage complex conditions in the brain, heart, and beyond.

The Symbia Evo Excel SPECT Gamma Camera

The first and only in General Santos City, this advanced system brings nuclear medicine closer to home. Unlike traditional imaging, it allows doctors to see not just structures, but how organs and tissues are actually functioning.

How this impacts patient care:
  • Earlier disease detection – spotting issues before they progress.

  • Accurate monitoring – tracking the effectiveness of treatments in oncology, cardiology, endocrinology, renal care, and neurology.

  • Personalized care – deeper insights for treatment plans tailored to each patient.

  • Accessible technology – no need to travel far for world-class nuclear medicine services.

This innovation ensures faster answers, better monitoring, and greater hope for patients facing serious health challenges.

Milestone & Legacy

What started as a modest 48-bed facility has evolved into one of the region’s most advanced medical institutions. Today, with the unveiling of the Siemens Magnetom Flow 1.5 Tesla Helium-Free MRI and the Symbia Evo Excel SPECT Gamma Camera, General Santos Doctors Hospital once again sets the standard in healthcare innovation. These acquisitions not only strengthen its role as a leader in Region XII but also ensure that families in SOCSARGEN have access to world-class diagnostics, compassionate care, and renewed hope — right here at home.

A Milestone Up Close

The Sox Bloggers Society with Dr. Daniel Yap, GSDH President and Medical Director and Dr. Myra Maduramente, Corporate Secretary

As always, I am honored to have been invited, together with my fellow Sox Bloggers, to witness this milestone. It makes me proud to see General Santos City taking bold steps in advancing medical services — not only for its residents but also for the neighboring cities and municipalities.
