A Glimpse of Glan's Heritage

Image
In an attempt to feature the century -old, culture-rich places of Glan, Sarangani Province in one Heritage Map, members of GBG Gensan conducted the First Glan GeoWalk last July 26, 2014. This was made possible through the initiative of Glan's very active Tourism Officer in the person of Lodar Escobillo and the participation of volunteer mappers from the Sultan Kudarat State University Extension College and some members of the LGU. Thank God for the good weather, we were able to explore the Poblacion without having to complain about the striking heat of the sun. I especially loved how those beautifully-aged acacia trees towered over us as we toured around the oldest school in town, Glan Central Elementary School. It's awesome how they were able to take good care of the trees while other cities kept on murdering theirs in exchange for modernization. Next stop was the seat of Catholic Faith in this part of the town. The Sta Catalina de Alexandria Parish, so we've ...

The Sunday Famers' Market Habit

Image
My husband and I have recently developed a weekend habit of visiting the Sunday Farmers' Market at the Ramas Residence in Lagao, General Santos City. Every Sunday, Ms. Rue Ramas , Lead Marketing Advocate of Corn Husk Craft Makers and Administrator of A Seed Grows in Facebook, opens the family garden from 7:00 in the morning to 12:00 noon. The Ramas Garden has become home to suppliers of fresh, farm-picked and mostly organic produce of vegetables, fruits , poultry and more! One thing I like about the Farmers' Market is the absence of a wet, slippery and smelly atmosphere you'll find in the usual marketplace. Children can actually just run around the place while dear Mum completes her shopping list, and the price is friendly to the pocket too.   SFM   immediately became a hit among early morning joggers, church goers and FB likers. I usually find familiar faces doing a shopping frenzy coupled with excited tones of p...

Turning Japaniza at SumoSam Gensan

Image
While everybody seems to dance with the Ramen Craze, I simply try to shy away from Japanese Resto knowing it could be a bit pricey for my pocket.  So when my blogger friends and I were invited to try Sumosam at the Al Fresco of SM General Santos, I  said yes without batting an eyelash. We were first offered Vegetable Ramen and Beef Niki Udon---both tasted delicious with hot and flavorful broth but I liked the former better.   Beef Niki Udon   Vegetable Ramen Beef Sukuyaki was cooked table-side by the chef . They use "wagyu" which is tender and tasty, and expensive ( hehehe). You can savor the sweetness of the onions and Bokchoy is just yummy. Here's a clip of the live demonstration. I'm sure you will hear our kulitan at the background. I was half-way on my sukiyaki when Japan really hit me! Its California Maki time! I immediately salivated at the sight of those lovely rolls! I love maki! ...
