Finding My Strong at 49
If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this journey, it’s that fitness in your 40s isn’t just about looking good. It’s about feeling alive, grounded, and strong enough to show up for the life you love.
My Workout Routine: A Daily Gift to Myself
My fitness journey isn’t perfect. Some days I’m energized and ready for a full workout; other days I slack or just simply proud I showed up. But I’ve learned that consistency beats intensity.
Like
every
single
time.
So I make it a point to carve out pockets of time to move, whether it’s a solid workout at the gym, strength training with my gym buddies, or a quick session squeezed between meetings and community commitments. Movement clears my mind, resets my energy, and reminds me that I am a priority in my own life.
Running: My Little Escape
Aside from the gym, running became a small escape I didn’t know I needed. Just me, the road, and my thoughts. I’m not the fastest, but I run (and walk) with heart. Whether it’s discovering new races, sunrise jogs, or short evening loops, every run feels like a quiet victory. A reminder that age is not a limit. It’s a mindset.
Grateful for My Circle of Strength
On days when discipline feels hard, I’m blessed with the best motivators. Poppy has been my steady source of motivation-- always NAGGING me to move! Hahahah! Always encouraging, always supportive, always reminding me of my own strength. Seriously, his guidance, and loud push have made this journey bearable and the "TWINNING", more fun. Cause who says running can't be fashionable? Hahaha!
And of course, my fellow Soxbees—my fitness tribe! We cheer each other on, push through workouts together, share laughs between sets, and celebrate every milestone. Having a community that lifts you up literally and figuratively, makes all the difference. We’re in this journey together, sweating, striving, and growing stronger side by side.
Balancing Work, Life, and Wellness
My work in the chamber and side hustle in managing events are both exciting and fulfilling, but it also comes with long hours and endless details. I thrive in it, but I also learned that I need to pause and take care of myself. So instead of chasing a perfect balance, I practice harmonizing things:
-
Some days are for work; some days are for me.
-
My workouts are my anchor, not another task on the list.
-
I allow myself to rest—without guilt.
-
I honor small victories, from sticking to a routine to winning a "Best Actress" award from a local award-giving body! (Who would have thought??! Me, taking home a best actress at 49? Woohoo!)
Self-care isn’t selfish. It’s essential. Because when I’m strong and centered, I show up better in every role I play. As a wife, mom, leader, host, entrepreneur, friend.
Choosing Myself, Every Day
Fitness at 49 is not about chasing youth anymore. It’s about embracing strength, grace, and longevity. It’s about honoring the body that carries me through the events I host, the communities I serve, the projects I lead, and the life I’m building with love.
This chapter feels lighter, more mindful, and more intentional. I’m proud of the woman I’m becoming...disciplined, resilient, and excited for the years ahead.
If you’re reading this and feeling the tug to start your own journey, maybe this is your sign. Start small. Move with joy. Choose yourself. And remember:
You are worth the time. You are worth the effort. You are worth taking care of.
And as always…Stay chic and keep telling.
Xoxo,
Mommy Chix 💋
